“Looking Up” on Park Avenue

I came across this wondrous spectacle while walking in Summer Streets last weekend.  This 33-foot androgynous steel sculpture with elongated limbs stares up towards the sky on Park Avenue between 53rd and 54th streets in Manhattan.
The piece, by artist Tom Friedman, is called “Looking Up”. According to his rep,  it’s meant to evoke the complex relationship New Yorkers have with the world above them. “Since 9/11, the idea of looking up in New York is fraught with anxiety,” the rep said. “But this sculpture is also charming, awkward, lovable and hopeful.”
