A letter from a Dad to his Daughter on her birthday

In Daily Musings, S.O.L.O. Stories by trishlist

Dear Trishna,

Today is your special day. Wow, 34 years ago a big, brown-eyed girl was born. Just a kid myself, I didn’t know what to expect. I only knew I was now the father of little girl, of whom I could NOT bear to see in pain as the nurse pricked her tiny heel to draw blood.

The doctor noticed a bluish-purple coloring around your lips and advised us to do further tests to rule out any issues with your heart. I remember going to work dejected the next day and discussing it in length with my boss. In the end, despite the scare, everything turned out to be fine.

Here we are, 34 years later, I can’t fathom how time has passed so quickly. We have so many memories to cherish. Through the ups and downs, you and your brother have provided us with fulfilling lives. If I had to do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat– with more vigor and appreciation of every moment, knowing now that time stops for no one.

It’s every parent’s dream to see their children grow into healthy, happy, successful adults. To provide proper guidance, and share knowledge, wisdom and experience that inspires you to do good in this world.
We have and always will want what’s best for you.
2017 is going to be great for both of us. We are going to work hard, engage in healthy activities, give our time and money for good causes, participate in civic duties, and travel the world.
Let’s make it happen! Happy Birthday!
Love, Dad
